USMLE Examination Centers

Application for step 1 and step 2 ck requires that you select one of the examination regions where the examination will be taken. Examination centers are listed below. These however, are subject to change without prior notice.

Also note that examination centers other than U.S and Canada require an individual to pay test delivery surcharge for each exam applied for.

 

United States:

Centers: located in every U.S. state, as well as Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Step 1 Surcharge: $0

Step 2 Surcharge: $0



Canada:

Centers: Test centers are located in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

Africa:

Centers: Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda

(For centres in Egypt, select Middle East testing region.)

Step 1 Surcharge: $160

Step 2 Surcharge: $180

 

Asia:

Centers: Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, People’s Republic of China (For Hong Kong, select Asia testing region. For centers in other available cities in the PRC, select China testing region.), Philippines, and Singapore

USMLE Application

Application for USMLE examination requires one to apply through appropriate registration system as given below:

 

N.B. Step 1, step 2ck and step 3 are not offered on major local holidays. Step 3 is also not taken during the first 14(fourteen) days of January.

 

Step 1, step 2 ck and step 2 cs:

 

NB: Step 2 CS has been canceled!

 

USMLE Step 3:

    All medical school graduates who have passed step 1 and step 2 CK can apply through FSMB

 

Cautions on Examination Day and Testing

  • Identity must be the same as that on the scheduling permit for the examination
  • Non seeking, non-provision of and non-obtaining any form of unauthorized assistance at any time
  • Prohibited materials must not be in your possession while in secure areas of the examination center
  • All personal belongings should be placed in locker or cubicle before entering the examination room
  • You should leave your testing station for break only when the break screen is visible on your monitor during computer based testing
  • You must not remove examination content from the examination center by any means
  • You should not write on anything other than the laminated note board
  • You should maintain the confidentiality of the material

 

Examination Identification Requirements

The following are accepted forms of identification:

 

  • Passport
  • Driver’s license with photograph
  • National identity card
  • Any other form of government issued identification

 

USMLE Result

Result for computer based test (step 1, step 2 ck and step 3) are usually made available within three to four weeks after examination date. Nonetheless, delays to the release of result are possible for diverse reasons.

 

You will be notified once your result is available, you will have to follow the instructions given in the notification sent. This result is made accessible for about 365 days from date of the notification after which the result will only be in transcript format which is also free.

 

USMLE Scoring System

The raw score for step 1, step 2 ck and step 3 are usually converted into three-digit score. It is however stated that USMLE program would change score reporting for step 1 to pass/fail with effect not earlier than January 1, 2022.

 

The current minimum passing score are:

Step 1: 194

Step 2: 209

Step 3: 198
